Is admission free?
Yes. Entry to the permanent museum collection is always free. Donations are gratefully received and help us maintain the collection.
Is there parking nearby?
Yes, free public parking is available close to High Street, within easy walking distance of the Municipal Buildings.
Is the museum accessible for wheelchairs and buggies?
The ground floor galleries offer step-free access. Public toilet facilities are also available on site. If you have specific access requirements, please call us ahead of your visit and we'll do our best to help.
What are your opening hours?
As a volunteer-run Society, our hours vary by season and volunteer availability and are not fixed year-round. Please call us on +44 1888 562800 or check our Facebook page for current opening times before travelling.
When is the Session Cottage open?
The Session Cottage opens seasonally rather than all year round, depending on volunteer availability. Please call us or check Facebook to confirm whether it is currently open before you visit.
How can I volunteer?
We welcome volunteers for front-of-house, cataloguing, research and event support. Get in touch via our Contact page or by phone, and we'll talk you through current opportunities.
How do I make a donation?
You can make a donation in person during a visit, or contact us by phone or email and we'll let you know the easiest way to give.
Can you help me research my family history?
Yes — our volunteer researchers can help with local family history using parish records, census returns and our photographic archive. It's best to contact us in advance so we can prepare relevant material for your visit.
Do I need to pay to attend Heritage Hub events?
No, Heritage Hub talks, workshops and family days are free to attend unless otherwise stated when the event is announced.
