About us
Our history and our mission
Turriff and District Heritage Society exists to collect, preserve and share the heritage of our town and its surrounding communities.
Why we exist
Turriff and District Heritage Society was founded by local people determined that the objects, photographs, documents and stories of our town and district should not be lost. Since then, generations of volunteers have gathered, catalogued and cared for a growing collection housed in the Municipal Buildings on the High Street.
We remain entirely volunteer-run: from the people who staff the museum and Session Cottage, to those who research family histories, catalogue new donations, and run our Heritage Hub programme of events.

Volunteer-run
Every part of the Society — from front-of-house to archiving — is run by local volunteers who give their time freely.
A registered Society
We operate as a registered organisation, company number SC007970, based at Municipal Buildings, High Street, Turriff, AB53 4EN.
Free to all
We believe local heritage belongs to everyone, which is why admission to our permanent collection has always been free.
